Pavan and new beach volleyball partner make debut in Toronto

Kitchener beach volleyball player Sarah Pavan will make the push for the next summer Olympics with a new partner.

Pavan has teamed up with 23-year-old Melissa Humana-Paredes.

The duo will make their debut at the Swatch Beach Volleyball World Tour Finals on Tuesday in Toronto. They will face Pavan’s former partner Heather Bansley, both played at the Rio Olympics together.

Pavan says she and Bansley had planned to end their partnership after the Olympics.

“Once the tournament ended, I approached Melissa and asked her if she would be interested in trying to make a push for Tokyo, in the next Olympic cycle with me…She seemed really excited, which made me very happy,” said Pavan.

The new pair just started practising together last week.

It’s free to attend the tournament, which runs until Sunday at Polson Pier.

“There’s a lot of hype surrounding our sport right now and just having this follow the Olympics, it’s awesome to continue that.” added Pavan.

Pavan will return to China next month, where she will play indoor volleyball this winter.
