Laurier Golden Hawks improve national ranking in the CIS top ten

The 2-0 Golden Hawks are currently tied for first place in the OUA with the Ottawa Gee-Gees and seventh in the CIS top ten.

They are coming off a bye week but with the McMaster Marauders and Manitoba Bisons losing over the weekend, they leapfrogged both teams and sit number seven in Canada.

Head Coach Michael Faulds tells us it’s nice to be in the top ten but it needs to be put into perspective.

“We’re constantly keeping our players grounded,” says Faulds, “sure, they have confidence in the ability of everyone on the football team, but at the end of the day you want to be ranked high at the end of the year and not the beginning of the year.”

Faulds admits, the national rankings are hard to avoid.

“Nowadays with social media, it’s hard to ignore the CIS rankings.”

Faulds adds the Laurier Golden Hawks football team is confident heading into week four.

“I think we have the advantage this week because we are playing another team that is ranked very high in Carleton ranked number four. It’s going to be easy to get our guys motivated to play a team that’s higher than us.”
