Brooke Henderson looking forward to playing in front of fans in her home province at Manulife LPGA Classic

It’s been an eventful summer for Brooke Henderson, to say the least.

She’s won a major tournament, been as high as 2nd in the world rankings, and represented Canada at the summer games in Rio.

Now, she’s back north of the border for the second straight weekend, competing in the Manulife LPGA Classic at Whistle Bear Golf Club.

Henderson says the support from Canadians has been unbelievable.

”In Calgary last week, the crowds were incredible. So hopefully this week, being a little bit closer to home, being from the home province, hopefully that crowd just continues to grow,” said Henderson.

As for her time in Brazil, Henderson says she managed to balance both work and play.

”We had a job to do. We’re trying to go down there to stand on that podium or to have a really good finish for Canada so we were very focused that week, but we did get to see Penny Oleksiak in the hallways, we saw Andre (De Grasse) and Usain Bolt get their medals,” said Henderson.

The 18-year-old didn’t make the cut in last year’s tournament, but she’s hoping to bounce back with a strong opening round Thursday.

”I think I’ll be a little bit more aggressive than I was last year and chase after some more birdies and hopefully get some low scores.”

Henderson tees off her opening round with world No. 2 Ariya Jutanugarn and American Cristie Kerr at 12:59 p.m.
