Panthers hitter Tanner Nivins joining Quebec Capitales of the Can-Am league

Tanner Nivins will be joining the Quebec Capitales of the Can-Am league.

Quebec is currently gearing up for a playoff run, they sit in second place – just three games back of their first place rivals, the New Jersey Jackals.

Nivins tells us how he learned about the opportunity.

“Throughout the semi-final series against Barrie, I kept in contact with the Capitales General Manager and once we got eliminated by the Baycats, it seemed like it would work out. It all happened really quick, I’m looking forward to the opportunity to get out there with Quebec.”

His role will be a little different with Quebec than with the Panthers but there are a few injuries on their roster right now so you could see Tanner in the starting lineup tonight or tomorrow when they take on the Ottawa Champions in a four game series.

Nivins will arrive in Quebec Thursday and he tells us he’s happy that he’s getting another shot at a league title.

“I’m definitely excited to go on another playoff run and help them out anyway I can. I’ll just do whatever they need me to do to help them win that championship.”

He says he didn’t really have the chance to dust up on his french before leaving Kitchener.

“That’s funny, I should have went through some old high school textbooks, maybe packed one or two of them but I don’t know how much good that would have done me.”

All joking aside, he finished the IBL season leading the Panthers in hits, average, home runs and was fourth on the team in RBI’s.

Nivins is expected to be a finalist for the IBL league MVP.
