Companies reporting major news:

Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (TSX:CM). Bank. Up $1.28, or 1.25 per cent, to $103.28 on 2.8-million shares. CIBC reported that its quarterly profit climbed nearly 50 per cent from a year ago to $1.44 billion, although much of the jump came from the sale of its minority stake in American Century Investments. Without the gains from the sale, the bank says its profit was up eight per cent to $1.07 billion from $990 million.

Toronto-Dominion Bank (TSX:TD). Bank. Down six cents, or 0.10 per cent, to $57.50 on three-million shares. TD Bank saw its third-quarter profit rise four per cent from a year ago to $2.36 billion, partly thanks to strong earnings from its U.S. retail banking operations. That’s compared to the $2.27 billion the bank earned during the same quarter last year.
