It was a special day for Recruit Class #91 as they received their badges.
Friends, family, police members and dignitaries were all in attendance for the ceremony that took place at Regional Police Headquaters in Cambridge.
Ten men started their journey back in March when they signed conditional offers of employment. Since then, they’ve attended training at the Ontario Police College in Alymer and gone through multiple rounds of testing and inspections.
Police Chief Bryan Larkin was on hand to congratulate and welcome the recruits to the WRPS.
Larken tells 570 News he’s always looking forward to getting the newest members of the team to work. “Policing is about people and I’m really glad that these individuals come in and breathe fresh life, they have new ideas, and I really think our landscape is changing and that makes me excited to have them on the force.”
For new member Micheal Bourdon, it was a day he’ll never forget.
His father and retired RCMP officer Rick Bourdon presented the badge to his son.
Bourdon cannot begin to explain how happy he is that his son followed in his footsteps.
“It was a very proud moment, there’s no doubt about it. I had something I wanted to say but unfortunately I got a little choked up.”
