Rats in Cambridge have people ‘cheesed’ off

Residents in Cambridge are getting fed up with the amount of rats in and around their homes.

The fat critters are running rampant and in some cases coming out of garbage cans.

Talking with Lisa Drew on The Jennifer Campbell Show, Brian Mair, Branch Manager of Abell Pest Control Waterloo says weather and on going construction are big reasons why the Norway rat is on the move in the Region. “Less insects, a little less food, and a lot more construction around the Region will generally amplify the movement. We always usually see an influx in calls during construction and sewer repairs because of the disturbance.”

Mair adds snap traps are still the best way to go, and pre-baiting them with something like pepperoni or peanut butter usually works best.

Under Section 9 of the City of Cambridge’s Lot Maintenance By-law #189-13, the city puts responsibility on the homeowner to get rid of the rodents if they’re on your property.

Setting up traps, finding access points and blocking them off, and making sure your house is clean are all ways to repel those pesky rodents.
