Panthers finish in second place after loss to London in tie-breaker

The London Majors have clinched the top seed in the Intercounty Baseball League.

Kitchener and London played a one-game playoff Monday night to decide the top seeded team for the upcoming playoffs. London came out on top with a 4-0 decision at Labatt Park.

It was the fifth time in league history the pennant was won in a tie-breaker.

London starter Cory Hammond (5-1) pitched a complete game of two-hit ball while walking one and striking out three.

The game was a scoreless affair until the seventh inning when Majors hitter Byron Reichstein singled to left field. That run would eventually score after the Panthers got the next two batters out. Brett Sabourin would cash in Reichstein for the game winning run.

The Majors added three runs in the eighth inning to clinch the IBL pennant.

Panthers starting Pitcher Matt McGovern (5-1) threw seven innings and was charged with one run on seven hits, striking out six London batters.

Tanner Nivins and Mike Andrulis both recorded hits for the Panthers but those were the only two that the Majors gave up.
