King in Uptown Waterloo will be open in time for Christmas shoppers

An update from Grandlinq Tuesday, saying that LRT construction in Uptown Waterloo is still on time and on schedule.

Erb and Caroline is set to reopen mid to late September and King between Erb and William will open by the end of November.

Samantha McIntyre is the Manager at Heel Boy Shoe Boutique and says she hopes that this schedule will stick.

“I have never seen a construction site that has actually finished on time so, I think we’re all taking it with a grain of salt but hope for the best at the same time (…) [The LRT] is going to be an awesome step for Waterloo, but it’s going to be another long five months.”

She adds keeping her customers informed is the number one priority.

“It’s very hard to gauge what days are going to be extremely dead and you only need one person working the store and what days an opening is going to come up and all of a sudden pedestrians are going to have better access, so that part has been particularly hard to plan for in terms of thinking you are getting all of the information.”

Also in the area is Alnoor Keshvani at Loop Uptown Waterloo.

“We just need to know what’s happening so we can inform our customers (…) as long as we know enough ahead of time to be able to move our train as well too in the right direction to ensure that we still have people boarding it.”

Like McIntyre, he agrees that businesses have to stay positive.

“Things are going to change and we’re going to have to walk a little but during that walk we’re going to find new places to shop, new places to eat, and new places to spend our money locally.”

The ION trains are expected to start running early 2018.
