Frederick Street closes from Duke to Charles for LRT work

You may need to plan an alternate to access downtown Kitchener as a new closure takes effect.

Frederick Street from Duke to Charles will be closed starting Wednesday June 27th until approximately early-October.

“We expect the closure to be fully in place by 8 a.m Wednesday morning. It will be in effect as crews remove asphalt and concrete, excavate the soil and then reconstruct the road, ” said Lauren McGirr with GrandLinq.

As a result of the closure, the intersection of Frederick and King will be shut down until early-October, while the intersection of Frederick and Duke is expected to be closed until early-November.

The detour around the closure will be Courtland to Queen to Weber.

McGirr says local access to businesses will be maintained as well as pedestrian access around the work zone.

There is some good news in the area as well, as GrandLinq says the intersection of Queen and Duke is expected to be reopen to traffic by the time the Frederick Street closure is in place.
