Cambridge makes the cut for top 25 cities to do business in Canada

If you’re looking for somewhere new to do business, Cambridge may be a city to think about.

Canadian Business Magazine, Profit Guide, has placed the city at number 24 in Canada when it comes to the top places to do business.

It’s also the only city in Waterloo Region that made the top 25.

Based on the report, these cities that top the list, strike a balance between reasonable costs and business friendly taxation and regulation.

President and CEO of the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce, Greg Durocher tells 570 News, Cambridge is on the list because of it’s location.

“We’re very close to the United States borders, we’re very close to Pearson International Airport, we’re right on Canada’s busiest highway and I think from a transportation and logistics perspective, moving business materials in and out and people in and out, I think Cambridge is the centre of the universe.”

The survey gives a score based on office costs, the speed of processing a building permit, and the percentage of residents holding a university degree.

Durocher tells us why businesses and companies may choose Cambridge to set up shop.

“It’s a great spot”, says Durocher, “it’s the reason why companies like Com Dev and TMMC pick Cambridge as a place to do business because it’s extremely well connected within a days drive to the wealthiest population on the planet.”

Profit Guide surveyed people in 60 different municipalities with populations of 15,000 or more.

Eight other Ontario cities have also cracked the list, Whitby is #7, Vaughn #8, Burlington #10, Chatham-Kent #13, Barrie #16, Milton #21, Oakville #22, Windsor-Essex rounds out the list at #25.
