The Ontario government agency that runs GO Transit says recent delays and overcrowding on the commuter trains are caused by repairs and upgrades that are unavoidable.
Metrolinx spokeswoman Anne Marie Aikins said it’s been a difficult couple of weeks for the busy regional transit system that serves southern Ontario.
A new GO Transit schedule came into effect late last month, causing delays on multiple lines in and out of Toronto, and other summer maintenance and work is being done.
Aikins says the service changes had to be made ahead of platform closures that are needed while a new train shed is built at Toronto’s Union station.
