Highlights of Bell Media’s 2016/17 TV lineups

TORONTO – Here are some of the highlights of Bell Media’s 2016/17 programming lineup:

On CTV:

— “Training Day,” a reimagining of the 2001 film. Beginning 15 years later, it stars Justin Cornwell as a rookie LAPD detective and Marianne Jean-Baptiste as a deputy chief who try to expose the corruption of a veteran cop, played by Bill Paxton.

— Also film-inspired is “The Exorcist,” a psychological thriller based on the 1973 classic horror and William Peter Blatty’s 1971 book. Alfonso Herrera, Ben Daniels, Hannah Kasulka and Geena Davis are among the stars of the demonic possession tale.

— “Time After Time” is also based on a book and movie. Freddie Stroma stars as famed science fiction writer H.G. Wells, who is transported to modern-day Manhattan in pursuit of Jack the Ripper, played by Josh Bowman.

— And there’s yet another book-inspired series in “Cardinal.” Based on Canadian mystery novelist Giles Blunt’s bestselling John Cardinal books, it stars Billy Campbell and Karine Vanasse.

— Returning CTV series include “Grey’s Anatomy,” “How to Get Away with Murder,” “Masterchef Canada,” “The Amazing Race Canada,” “Code Black,” “The Catch,” “Gotham” and “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”

On Discovery Canada:

— Allan Hawco is among several Canadians who star alongside Jason Momoa in “Frontier,” about the struggle for wealth and power in the North American fur trade in the late 18th century.

On The Comedy Network:

— “Hart of the City,” in which comedy star Kevin Hart travels to different cities to explore their standup scenes.

— The satirical news series “The Beaverton,” based on the popular website.

On E!:

— The Hollywood insider drama “The Arrangement” featuring Michael Vartan, Josh Henderson and Christine Evangelista.

— The Mariah Carey docu-series “Mariah’s World.”
