Alberta singers to lead Calgary’s annual Stampede parade

By The Canadian Press

CALGARY – Singers Jann Arden and Paul Brandt have been named as marshals to lead this year’s Calgary Stampede parade.

Arden and Brandt say they are excited to be taking part and remember sitting on street curbs as children to watch the parade.

Arden, who recently hosted the Juno Awards, added her voice in 2014 to a coalition opposed to the capture of wild horses in Alberta.

Brandt is listed as the most-awarded male Canadian Country Music artist in history and has been a stage headliner at the Stampede before.

Parade organizers say a special entry this year will recognize firefighters and others who helped Fort McMurray residents after a wildfire destroyed 2,400 homes and buildings.

The parade kicks off the 10-day Stampede on July 8.
