Kitchener Walk for Arthritis takes place today at Stanley Park Community Centre

The Kitchener Walk for Arthritis takes place today at Stanley Park Community Centre located at 505 Franklin Street North.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., with the walk beginning at 10 a.m.

Robin McLean is the community development coordinator for the Arthritis Society in Kitchener and she outlines the length of the walk.

“Here in Kitchener, we have a one-kilometer walk and a five kilometer walk which is great for people of all different levels of mobility and age. We also have a live performance from the Shaky D band.”

You will also be able to do a quick warm-up before the event with a Yogi instructor, Christine Yanke as well as free massages from the Canadian College of Massage & Hydrotherapy.

McLean adds the event is more than just raising funds, it’s raising awareness about arthritis.

“There’s over 4.6 million people affected by arthritis living in Canada today. It’s unknown to many people how many people suffer within their own lives. They don’t realize their collegues suffer beside them, that kids suffer from juvenile arthritis.”

Other activities include face painting for children, fun fitness for kids in the Jack the Nimblebus and great prizes being handed out to every participant.

You will also be able to try some treats from David’s Tea and Piller’s. SwagBags will be handed out to all participants and t-shirts for fundraisers.

The Arthritis Society of Kitchener hopes to raise 25-thousand dollars at this years event. Nationally the goal is set at 1.2 million dollars.
