The annual Relay for Life Walk in Cambridge takes place tonight

Shade’s Mill Conservation area is the host of the annual Relay for Life Walk in Cambridge.

Ashley Culp is the Community Fundraising Specilaist for the Canadian Cancer Society Waterloo Region unit and she tells us it helps support Cancer research.

“The Cambridge event is one of the Canadian Cancer Society’s signature fundraising events, Culp says “we raise money to support our services as well as research that goes on around the province and country.”

The relay begins at 6 p.m. tonight and runs until midnight.

Culp adds this is just a small piece of what is a full year of fundraising.

“We have a committee of approximately fifteen people, who work all year round to organize the entire event whether that be securing food vendors for us, making sure that we have people coming to the event and reaching out to cancer survivors to have them open up the entire event for us through a survivor lap.

There is lots for you to do at the event including face painting, colouring and cosmic bowling for all ages.

There will be a luminary event taking place at 10 p.m. tonight, where they light luminary bags in memory of people who have lost their battle to cancer and people who continue to fight the disease.

At the end of the walk, a celebration will take place about how much was raised for cancer research. The goal this year is 125-thousand dollars.
