Man charged after police take down in Kitchener released on bail

A man charged in connection with a dramatic police take down outside Fairview Park Mall in Kitchener this week has been released on bail.
The incident, which was caught on video and went viral, involved a man allegedly with a hatchet.
An officer takes the man down and then receives help from nearby citizens.
Today’s Record identifies the accused as 27-year-old Shane Weaver.
He’s charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and resisting arrest.
There are strict conditions attached to his release, including he must live with his father in Kitchener and abide by a curfew.
He is also forbidden from having weapons and must stay away from the mall.
He’s scheduled to return to court on June 21st.
