LRT construction causes detour infront of GRH’s main entrance

Access to Grand River Hospital will be slightly modified starting Tuesday for LRT construction.

Mark Karjaluoto is Director of Communications at GRH and tells us about the closure.

“The closure will be in place for the construction of LRT track right in front of our main entrance– which is a process that should take about three weeks. What it’s going to mean is that people who are coming from the Kitchener side, will have to drive just a little bit further. Motorists can drive up to our Emergency Entrance, take a U-turn, and then come back to our main entrance and turn right.”

Karjaluoto adds that right turns from the main driveway onto King Street West will remain available, and that he believes this will be a smooth transition for motorists.

“We think this will be a smooth transition because we’ve done this before. There’s been work in that entrance before and we’ve seen a similar type of closure. As people go forward and do that U-turn, it tends to work pretty well. We just want to make sure everyone takes that extra time to get to the Hospital so they’re not surprised by this.”

Karjaluoto says hospital staff have been working very closely with GrandLinq during LRT construction.

“We’ve been working with GrandLinq about maintaining access to the Hospital at all times and they’ve just been great. We think because King and Union has reopened, it will definitely help and make life easier for people coming to the Hospital. This is a pretty small closure in the grand scheme of things, but we know there’s been a lot of construction related closures in the Region and we just want people to prepare accordingly.”
