CRTC launching public hearings over concerns of “skinny cable”

The federal broadcast regulator will be checking up on the cable and satellite TV industry in September.

The CRTC will launch a public hearing, citing concerns raised about how some companies are implementing skinny cable services, the 25-dollar a month basic cable packages it ordered firms to start offering back in March.

C-R-T-C Chairman Jean-Pierre Blais says “skinny cable” is a way for Canadians to better match their TV services with their needs, and so far, nearly 100-thousand people have opted to subscribe to the basic plan.

But it’s been hearing that the packages are costing more than 25-bucks after installation and equipment fees are added in.
