Automated License Plater Recognition system changes how OPP officers work

Wellington County OPP has been using an Automated License Plate Recognition system for just over two years now and officers say they’ve seem remarkable results.

A.L.P.R. is a license plate scanning tool that uses Infra-Red light to capture a license plate image of both the front and back of a vehicle.

Scott Lawson with OPP says the technology has changed the way officers work.

“It quite frankly allows us to run a series of license plates for the system to query license plates quicker than an officer could in milliseconds and then it detects those that have some type of concern attached to that plate.”

He says there are only 27 A.L.P.R. systems across our province.
