11th Annual Trek 4 Kids Hike and Bike helps send kids to summercamp

The 11th Annual Trek 4 Kids Hike and Bike gets under way today and helps support House of Friendship’s Summercamp Sponsorship Program.

John Neufeld is Executive Director of House of Friendship and says Trek 4 Kids is a run, walk, bike-a-thon that anyone in the community can participate in.

“Trek 4 Kids started about 11 years ago and it helps send kids to camp. We have a strong belief that all kids, regardless of background or income, should have the opportunity of the transformational experience of summer camp.”

Neufeld says they usually have between 100 and 200 people come out for the trek.

“Most importantly though is that this year we have 128 children already registered and hoping to go to camp. So our number one goal and focus right now is to get all those kids to camp this summer.”

Neufeld says it means a lot to House of Friendship to have the opportunity to help kids have this experience.

“A summer camp experience can be really transformational for kids. They get to experience new things, meet new people and just have a fun time. We’re very committed to this initiative to help children because we do work in different community centres and see the negative impact that not being able to participate in certain events can have on children.”

Neufeld says if you’re interested in participating in the trek, you can sign up online or register directly at the event.

“The event officially gets under way starting at 2 p.m. at 50 Kent in Kitchener. We have a bike rodeo beforehand at 12:30 p.m. and food there, and you can sign-up there. I do recommend that people go to our website to get all the information or pre-register.”

Neufeld adds that you can also make a donation online to help their Summercamp Sponsorship Program.

“We would just like to thank the community for their outstanding work. We’ve been sending children to camp for a long, long time and we just want to thank the community for their support and generosity– and we’re looking forward to having another great year and sending these 128 kids to camp this summer.”
