April 2016 goes down as a cold one

April was a month to remember weather-wise in Waterloo Region.

It goes down in the books as the coldest April in 21 years.

The University of Waterloo Weather station reports, the average temperature was 2.3 degrees below normal and it was the coldest April since 1995.

Its monthly summary also points out the overnight low of almost minus 15 on the 5th was the fourth coldest April temperature in over 100 years of record keeping in the region.

In terms of precipitation, it was close to normal: just over 72 millimetres – a shade under the average of about 74 millimetres.

Still, next to December, we recorded the second highest monthly total of snowfall of the season in April: 28.5 centimetres.
