Evacuation order lifted for High Level fire, but residents told to remain on alert

By The Canadian Press

EDMONTON – Another fire evacuation order in northeast Alberta has been cancelled.

Rural residents south of High Level between Bushe Reserve and Highway 35 near High Level are being allowed to go back to their homes after a fire broke out at a chipboard plant on Wednesday.

However, residents are being told to remain on alert in case of changes in weather.

Mackenzie County Reeve Bill Neufeld says firefighters are battling hot spots.

High Level is 780 kilometres northwest of Edmonton.

A blaze west of Edmonton caused an evacuation of houses and schools on the Alexis reserve as well as in the hamlet of Glenevis on Wednesday.

But later that night, the order for the entirety of the County of Lac Ste. Anne was lifted and residents were told they could return home.
