Wellington County receives provincial funding to build electric vehicle charging stations

Our provincial government is investing $20-million to build electric vehicle charging stations across Ontario– including a few here locally.

Andrea Ravensdale with The County of Wellington says they will receive almost a quarter of a million dollars to build three stations as part of the Province’s new Climate Change Strategy.

“The Government of Ontario is putting it’s new Climate Change Strategy into action and investing $20 million from the Ontario Green Investment Fund to build electric vehicle charging stations across the province. The Country is receiving just over $215,000 which will finance three level-3 charging stations, which will be able to charge a battery to 80 per cent in half an hour.”

The stations will be located at the Puslinch Library, the Arthur Library-Medical Centre and the Social Services Office in Guelph.

“Construction will begin this spring, and charging stations will be fully operational by March 31st, 2017,” says Ravensdale.

Ravensdale adds that The County of Wellington continues to be a leader in environmental sustainability.

“Overall, The County of Wellington has been a real leader in environmental excellence. In 2004 we started a tree planting program and have planted 2-million trees with community partners across the County. So this new green initiative certainly falls under our environmental umbrella.”
