‘Side by Side Art Show’ supports region’s Planned Lifetime Networks

The 7th annual Side by Side Art Show kicks off at THEMUSEUM in downtown Kitchener tonight.
Coordinator Wendy Newbery tells us about the event.
“The Side by Side Art Show is a collection of art that is done on 12×12 wooden panels by various artists in our community. Each piece was done by a different artist, but they all connect to theme of ‘Art and Soul’.”
Newbery says all proceeds from the event go towards our region’s Planned Lifetime Networks.
“This is a big fundraiser for the PLN. The money raised from the sale of the art and things in our workshops goes towards our initiative of building communities and building personal support networks for those who may be isolated. The funding is very important for us and this is just a fun way to bring in some of that money that we need so badly to address loneliness in our communities.”
Newbery adds that there’s always a lot of positive feedback from the annual event.
“This is the 7th year we’ve had an art show and our 5th year with the name ‘Side by Side Art Show’. Planned Life Networks is a group that endeavours to create community and help those that may be socially isolated to make connections– and one of the ways we do that is bringing people together with common interests, like with art. Last year we had 50 artists participating and this year we have 90– so it is very successful, fun and is a no-pressure art experience. It celebrates everyone’s creativity and we think that’s pretty unique.”
Newbery adds that the art featured in the show is a diverse representation of our community.
“One of the things that’s really profound about this show is the representation of the 90 pieces we have– each is done by a different person from a different walk of life. It’s kind of a microcosm of the community as a whole, and it represents the diversity in our community and how we can appreciate and celebrate that.”
The Side by Side Art show launches at 6:30 pm and will run until May 29th.
