$5-million in damage caused in September’s Dollarama fire in Waterloo

The final report puts the estimated damage of the Parkdale Plaza fire at $5 million.

One person was charged with arson in the fire that happened on Friday, September 11, 2015. The 15-year-old is serving two years of probation.

Crews battled smoke and fire that started in the Dollarama, for more than 12 hours. Many of the businesses have yet to reopen.

“The OFMEM has released their final report on the Dollarama Fire, bringing the investigation of the Parkdale Plaza fire to a formal close,” Chief Richard Hepditch from Waterloo Fire Rescue Services said in a release.

“We are pleased to see that some of the businesses have been able to reopen at Parkdale Plaza and we look forward to seeing the entire plaza return to full operation following this major fire incident. I encourage the community to support the recovery of the businesses affected by the fire.”
