A look under the LRT dome, Region says GrandLinq footing the bill

It’s still not clear where funds are coming from to pay for the two LRT domes sitting at King and Victoria in Kitchener.
Avril Fiskin with GrandLinq and TJ Flynn Rapid Transit spokesperson with the Region said to media on Wednesday afternoon they are in ongoing talks.
Meantime Regional Councillor and Project head Tom Galloway joined the Eric Drozd Show, he says that’s not the case.
Galloway later said on the Eric Drozd Show, the Region has a contingency fund.
Regional Chair Ken Seiling told 570 News on Thursday morning that GrandLinq is paying for this up front to meet timelines, adding GrandLinq may make claims after.
No word on how much the project costs, estimates say it could be upward of $2 million.
The LRT domes are set to be complete by the end of the week.
The domes will allow work to continue on the King Street Grade Separation throughout the cold weather.
Dan Millichamp with GrandLinq says our province has strict requirements when it comes to the temperature of concrete. “There’s temperature restrictions, we have to keep it above 10 degrees.” However GrandLinq says temperatures will most likely be around 20 degrees in concentrated areas.
Millichamp adds the bridge is expected to be complete by the end of March, and the dome will come down in April.
