Major reconstruction work starts at York/Wyndham in Guelph

A major sewer installation and reconstruction project is underway in Guelph this week.

Construction in the intersection at York Road and Wyndham Street will take about a week to complete, depending on weather.

The work is the first stage of the Arthur Street sanitary trunk sewer project and will include the installation of sanitary and storm sewers, water mains, curbs, and gutters along with sidewalks, bike lanes and on street parking.

Through traffic and truck traffic will be directed along Elizabeth Street as an alternate route. Local access will be maintained along York Road both north and east of the intersection closure.

During most of the construction period, traffic on Wyndham Street will be maintained in both directions between Wellington Street and York Road.

The city says it will make every effort to maintain access to driveways in the construction area during the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. however, work and equipment may temporarily block access to private properties in the area.

City officials add ‘when access to driveways is restricted, residents and businesses will be provided with notice and direction for parking on nearby streets.’

Motorists travelling through the work area should expect delays.
