Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic meeting with Prime Minister Trudeau today

The mayors of Canada’s 21 biggest cities will have their hands extended today when they meet in Ottawa with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Kitchener’s mayor Berry Vrbanovic is there for that meeting.

Many of the discussions have focused on updating infrastructure. Mayor Vrbanovic tells 570 News “that’s important because we know that we have an infratstructure defecit and everything from the state of affordable housing stock to the state of our sewer and water pipes and seeing some of that focus be in those areas initially is a postive thing.”

The Mayors will press Trudeau to speed up his government’s plan to boost spending on infrastructure as a way of injecting some life into the sputtering economy.

The Liberals have pledged to spend an additional 60-billion dollars on infrastructure over the next decade.

Of that money, about five-billion is due to be handed out in the fiscal year that starts April 1st.
