Temps. slightly above normal in January

January goes down in the books as an above normal month for temperatures.

The University of Waterloo Weather Station has crunched the numbers and says the overall temperature was about a degree above average.

However, when compared to the two previous bitterly cold Januarys, it was 4 degrees warmer than those months.
Weather Station Coordinator Frank Seglenieks says last month “might have seemed just a little bit boring,” although he points out, it may have seemed warmer because we never experienced more than one cold day in a row.

In terms of precipitation, it was slightly below the norm: just under 63 millimetres as compared to the average of 65.

Snowfall amounts were also down: just over 36 centimetres fell last month.

An average January would bring us a shade under 44 centimetres of snow.
