Team Canada shuts out the Czech Republic at the World Under-18 Women’s Championships

The World Under-18 Women’s Championships is in it’s third day in St. Catharines.

Team Canada gave a strong performance from all four lines last night against the Czech Republic.

The Czech Republic held Team Canada in check for the first eighteen minutes of the game but that did not last long.

Two minutes and fifty-four seconds. Five goals. That’s all it took for the Canadians to run away with this one.

Team Canada broke a record scoring the fastest five goals scored by one team. Canada’s first powerplay of the game was a successful one. Lindsay Agnew put the Canadians on the board with just one second left of the powerplay. She led the way with two goals and one assist.

The rest of the goals were all scored at even strength.

Shirley Oswald and Amy Potomak scored just twenty-two seconds apart to put the Canadians up by three after the first period.

Then one minute into the second period, Kristin O’Neill and Amy Potomak quickly made it 5-0.

After Sophie Shirley made it 6-0, Katerina Zechovska replaced Denisa Jandova in the Czech net. It was the second night in a row Canada had chased a goalie from the crease.

In Canada’s mind, it did not matter who was in net. The rout continued.

Just six minutes after Zechovska took over in the Czech net, Jaime Bourbonnais continued the onslaught.

Team Canada closed out the game with goals from Lindsay Agnew, Kristen O’Neill and Malia Schneider. Final score in the game was 11-0.

Édith D’Astous-Moreau only faced thirteen shots but was solid throughout the game that helped Canada to their second straight victory and first shutout of the tournament.

It’s a tough contest next for the Canadians. They face the defending champions, team USA.

USA have won both their games, each 6-0 victories over the Czech Republic and Russia.

USA defeated Canada in the gold medal game last year in Buffalo.
