Opilka solid, but Rangers drop close one to Erie

It was close, but the Kitchener Rangers were not able to spoil the American Thanksgiving for the Erie Otters.

The CHL’s top ranked team edged the Rangers 3-2 in Erie on Thursday night. Kitchener is now 0-2 vs. the Otters this season. They lost 5-2 at The Aud a few weeks ago.

Luke Opilka made 36 saves in the losing effort. Kitchener’s goals were scored by Ryan MacInnis (18) and Adam Mascherin (11).

“Not the greatest feeling right now, obviously losing two in a row to these guys, but I thought we played a decent effort through 60 minutes…I guess we’re going to try and build off it for the rest of this weekend.” Mascherin told the post-game show on 570 News.

“…We don’t want to lose any game. Even tonight when we were down, all the guys on the bench had the mentality that we could come back and win…”

With the win, Erie becomes the first team to collect 20 wins in the OHL this season.

Kitchener is home to Barrie on Friday night. 570 News has the pre-game show at 7pm.
