MPP’s try and get new Liberal MP’s all aboard two-way all-day GO train service to Kitchener

Two local MPP’s have a message for the new federal Liberal Members of Parliament.

Kitchener-Waterloo’s Catherine Fife and Kitchener-Conestoga’s Michael Harris are continuing the push for two-way all-day GO between Kitchener and Toronto.

The New Democrat and Progressive Conservative MPP’s have sent an open letter to Bardish Chagger, Raj Saini, Marwan Tabbara, and Bryan May.

“Let’s put politics aside, and let’s work to ensure that all parties of all levels of government are working [towards] the arrival of all-day two-way GO,” Harris tells 570 News.

Harris and Fife say they hope they can all work toward a better Waterloo Region, Ontario and Canada.

Harris adds it’s particularly important to get more trains coming to the region.

“We know that there are many companies in the region that are putting their employees on buses in the morning in the GTA to come to the Region of Waterloo,” Harris says.

“If we had those trains coming in the morning to the region, there may be more that would come for employment.”

The two are reminding local Liberal MP’s that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau ran ads highlighting his support for investments in transit infrastructure.

“Work with us across party lines, working on the best interests of Waterloo Region residents,” says Harris.

“Campaign promises were made; let’s make sure we hold them to them.”

study co-authored by the Region of Waterloo, the City of Kitchener, and the City of Waterloo estimated two-way commuter rail would lead to tens of thousands of jobs and hundreds of millions in annual tax revenue.
