Libro looking to connect girls with Waterloo Region’s tech sector

A $50,000 investment by Libro Credit Union is looking to help young girls in our community.

HackerGrrlz is a program through Year of Code Waterloo Region (YoCWR) and specifically targets girls in elementary school between Grades 4 and 7.

Stephanie Rozek with Year of Code Waterloo Region tells 570 News that the program looks to connect the girls with young women working the tech sector or in the STEM field (science, tech, engineering and math).

What the girls learn depends on what they are interested in. This could include everything from programming a video game to design an app.

Rozek adds they hope to shine a spotlight on tech learning opportunities, organizations, and facilities in the region while building accessible opportunities aimed directly at changing the tech landscape.
