Marcus Stroman gets his own song tribute ahead of ALCS Game 3 start

Blue Jays pitcher Marcus Stroman has a new pump-up song for tonight’s game, after a Canadian artist has written a song in his honour.

Toronto-based songwriter Miles Jones, an award-winning hip-hop artist, grew up watching the Jays win back-to-back World Series and became a fan of the young pitcher when he debuted with the team last year.

Jones penned “Marcus Stroman” as a tribute to the Jays phenom, and in a twist of fate, Stroman is set to start tonight in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series after suffering what seemed to be a season-ending injury at the start of the year.

It’s poetic, according to Jones.

“No one expected the Jays to do what they did this year,” says Jones, “so for them to get all these players and rally [to] make the playoffs, and then not only that, but to have it be Marcus Stroman, where it seems the fate of Toronto — or Canada — rests in [his] hands, it couldn’t have been scripted any better.”

Jones says the atmosphere in Canada during this Jays run has been special.

“There’s something magical about it,” he says. “It’s almost as if there’s this hope: ‘the year’s not over yet, we can still accomplish the impossible.’ Now I’m walking by the schoolyard, and for the first time in my adult life, I’m seeing kids playing baseball.”

The song hasn’t gone unnoticed by the Jays pitcher.

Jones says when he shared the song on Twitter, Stroman noticed and gave it the thumbs up.

Now, with the hopes of Jays fans resting on the pitcher’s shoulders, Jones feels Stroman is ready to deliver:

“If the Jays can hit, we’re going to win for sure. It’s funny, we’re burying ourselves 0-2, and then 0-2 again, but it seems to be written where [Stroman] is the one to be the hero, and he’s done what’s impossible this year.”
