Fans of the Kitchener Rangers were treated to a home win with all the trimmings on Thanksgiving Day Monday.
16-year-old rookie Greg Meireles finished with two goals a three assists in Kitchener’s commanding 8-2 win over the Sudbury Wolves in front of a crowd of more than 6,700.
“I’m just really excited to be here…The fan base is incredible, the team is great, the atmosphere in the room is amazing. I’m just so happy to be here right now.” Meireles told 570 News after the game.
Other Kitchener goals came from Mason Kohn, Connor Bunnaman, David Miller (2), Jacob Cascagnette (his first OHL goal) and Adam Mascherin.
Rangers goaltender Luke Opilka needed just 18 saves to earn his second win of the season. It was also Kitchener’s first victory at home this season.
The Rangers are home to Owen Sound on Friday. 570 News has the pre-game show at 7pm.
