Increased police presence throughout Thanksgiving weekend

With Oktoberfest, Hometown Hockey and Thanksgiving Celebrations this weekend, Regional Police will be increasing their presence making sure that people stay safe.

“On behalf of the members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service, we welcome the many groups, individuals and visitors to our Region as we celebrate our sense of community,” said Bryan Larkin, Chief of Police. “Best wishes to all for a safe and enjoyable festival and we encourage everyone to be responsible.”

On top of that, Staff Sergeant Mike Haffner says that police will continue to search the Margaret/Union area of Kitchener after an arrow homicide earlier this week.

“For situations like this where we’ve had an incident that is causing some concern for the community and our organization as we try to successfully manage through it, we also have to prepare for Oktoberfest and we have an operational plan involving that.”

Police will also be keeping an eye on impaired driving, use of seatbelts, and distracted or aggressive driving offences.
