Thousands of students get ready to go back to school in Waterloo Region

It will be a busy weekend around local campuses as 30,000 students are expected to start the school year in the Waterloo Region.

Regional Police are reminding students to stay safe and respectful this school year..

Alana Holtom with Regional Police told 570 News that they are educating students on respecting their surroundings while they take part in classes with Project Safe Semester.

“Respecting your community and respecting your neighbours also first and foremost, we are ensure people are celebrating the school year safely so we will be out in high visibility.”

Project Safe Semester runs until September 26th and will also include a Door Knock campaign on September 15 in the neighbourhoods surrounding the Universities.

The City of Waterloo’s by-law enforcement team along with Waterloo Fire Rescue will also be on campuses throughout the month ensuring everyone is staying safe.
