Talks continue between the province and public elementary teachers

MPP for Guelph and Minister of Education, Liz Sandals gave an update while at a funding announcement in Guelph on Friday.

She says the long weekend won’t halt talks.

“Certainly the boards and the government are quite prepared to carry on working with Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario all weekend. I’m quite hopeful that we’ll be able to come to agreements with ETFO.”

If an agreement isn’t reached by Tuesday, Phase Two of their work-to-rule job action will begin.

This includes no field trips, fundraising activities, meeting or training sessions, professional development sessions or respond to any electronic communications from the principal or vice-principal.

Talks are also ongoing with French Public and Catholic Boards. They are back at the bargaining table on Tuesday and are not threatening job action as long as negotiations continue.

Tentative agreements have been made with OSSTF and OECTA which include secondary school teachers and the English catholic board.

Those agreements have not yet been ratified.
