PC Leader Patrick Brown wins byelection, seat in the legislature

COLDWATER, Ont. – Ontario’s Progressive Conservative Leader Patrick Brown will have a seat in the legislature when the house resumes sitting in a little over a week.

Brown sailed to an easy victory in a provincial byelection yesterday with more than 50 per cent of the votes.

He attributed his win to voters in Simcoe North rejecting what he called “one of the most negative campaigns” ever seen by the Liberals.

That was a reference to attempts to paint him as an extreme social right winger.

The former Conservative M-P in nearby Barrie won the party leadership in May.

He resigned his federal seat but spent the last few weeks of the legislative session as a leader sidelined without a seat.

Progressive Conservative Garfield Dunlop resigned his Simcoe North seat so Brown could run in the byelection.

Brown says he is already formulating his first question for when the legislature resumes September 14th, but wouldn’t reveal last night what it would be.
