One major party leader on the election campaign trail today

OTTAWA – It’s going to be a relatively quiet day on the election trail with only one of the major party leaders campaigning.

Liberal leader Justin Trudeau is making the rounds of the Toronto-area’s ethnic communities today.
He’s speaking to Canada’s largest Islamic conference, and attending Tamil and Filipino festivals.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Harper spoke to the same Islamic event that Trudeau will address today.

Harper raised the threat of homegrown terrorism and praised Muslim leaders for their efforts to curb youth radicalization.

He and NDP leader Tom Mulcair are both taking a day off the campaign trail today.

Yesterday, Mulcair campaigned in Montreal where he commented on aspirations by Quebec City and Montreal to regain lost pro-sports franchises.

He said tax dollars shouldn’t be spent on big league sports franchises when hundreds of thousands of Canadian kids live in poverty.

Mulcair said the private sector should drive any effort to bring major league baseball back to Montreal or pro hockey back to Quebec City.
