Kitchener Panthers open IBL final tonight

The Kitchener Panthers are four wins away from their first IBL championship in 14 years.

Game 1 of the final goes Tuesday night in Barrie.

The Baycats and Panthers finished 1 and 2 in the regular season standings. Barrie won the championship in 2014.

Panthers General Manager Scott Ballantyne tells 570 News he’s expecting a close series.

“We can score some runs, so that’s never usually as issue for us. It will be pitching and defence that will be the keys for us.”

Game 2 is set for Thursday at 7:30pm at Jack Couch Park in Kitchener.

On Monday, Panthers DH Sean Reilly was named the IBL’s Most Valuable Player. He received 28 votes, edging Burlington Bandits first baseman Shaun Cooper, who had 24 votes.

Reilly achieved the IBL Triple Crown after leading the league with 17 home runs, 48 RBI and a .444 average.
