Escape stopped by staff at Grand Valley Institution for Women

Few details have been released about an attempted prison break at the Grand Valley Institution for Women in Kitchener.

Officials with the institution tell 570 News that staff prevented the escape on Wednesday.

A complete lockdown of the institution was put in place.

As is protocol with all attempted escapes, the Correctional Service of Canada will be reviewing the circumstances surrounding the escape.

In an email to 570 News Shannon Mills, Regional Communications Manager at the Correctional Service of Canada said:

“Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, inmates and the public is CSC’s priority.

A complete lockdown of the institution was put in place to conduct a count of the institution. As all inmates were accounted for, the institution returned to normal routine. CSC reviews the circumstances surrounding all escapes, including attempted escapes.”
