CAA out with safe driving tips ahead of long weekend

CAA is out with safe driving tips for motorists planning a road trip this long weekend.

Silvana Aceto with CAA tells 570 News the best thing to do is to make sure you go over your vehicle before hitting the highway.

“Plan ahead and be prepared and that means making sure your vehicle is in good working condition. Change your oil, test your battery, top up those fluids, and check your tire pressure before you leave.”

Aceto also says it is a good idea to pack an emergency kit with you.

“Something you have in the vehicle with you. Bottle water, as well as snacks. Make sure you are also carrying with you booster cables in case your battery does break down as well a fully charged phone in case of an emergency.”

She also has some tips on how to pack your vehicle to keep you and those around you safe.

“Start with the largest bags and then you are going to fill in the space around them with smaller items. You always want to make sure that you keep the view through your back windows clear. As well, if you are carrying any addition cargo, you want to make sure that it is secure to your vehicle, so it doesn’t fly off while you are driving along the highway.”
