Local hospitals looking for new chief of staff

The search is on for a new chief of staff at Grand River and St. Mary’s General Hospitals.
Doctor Ashok Sharma has decided not to renew his contract, which expires at the end of August.
Grand River Hospital Board Chair, Geoff Bellew, tells the Record they are conducting a national search for a replacement for Sharma, who had served in his role for 10 years.
It could take up to six months to find a successor for Sharma.
Sharma faced a formal caution earlier this month by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario for his conduct related to a drug error linked to the death of an elderly Waterloo man.
