Cambridge company provides school supplies in Dominican Republic

A Cambridge company is doing its part to help kids in the Domican Republic with their schooling.

Fibernetics says its in-house charity, “Backpacks for Kids” has raised enough so that 127 Dominican children will have the necessary supplies to attend school this year.

Keep in mind, unless children there have the right supplies and clothing they cannot go to school.

The backpacks include all the essentials, such as notebooks, pencils, erasers and rulers.

Younger students also receive a gift certificate to cover the costs of a school uniform.

“I love kids,” says Peter Cross, Vice President in charge of the Fibernetics Contact Centre.

“I have lived down here for 10 years, but it still pains me to see the poverty around me on an everyday basis. Kids with clothes falling off their backs or no shoes on their feet. Kids who are 7 or 8 years old forced to work in the streets either shining shoes or begging for money.”

“I can’t imagine that a child would not be educated simply because they didn’t have enough money to buy pencils and erasers,” he adds.

“We just couldn’t be anymore proud that we are able to send these children to school,” says Fibernetics President John Stix.

“Caring is at the heart of who we are. We understand that by helping others achieve their dreams we allow ours to flourish as well. It’s humbling to be this company’s president.”
