Hot days ahead

It’s been a hot few days across the Waterloo Region.

Weather Specialist John Wilson is calling for temperatures of 32 degrees Wednesday, 28 degrees on Thursday, and 28 degrees on Friday.

Janice Works with the City of Waterloo tells 570 News, families can stay cool by taking a dip at any of the public pools around the city:

“We encourage them to come swimming at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex, we also have an outdoor pool at Moses Springer and for the young children there is the Lion’s Lagoon at Waterloo Park.”

Works adds public facilities such as City Hall, libraries and community centres are available all day for families to stay cool.

The sweltering heat also means air conditioners in the region will be working over-time.

Kitchener-Wilmot Hydro’s Wilf Meston tells 570 news how residents can keep cool without blasting their AC’s.

“If you’re trying to keep the house a little bit cool, blinds and drapes being closed to keep the sun out. Fans use less electricity than your air conditioner will.”

Meston adds that we hit our yearly hydro peak yesterday, and he is expecting numbers to peak again today.
