Documentary film nears release on Market Basket dispute, power struggle between cousins

BOSTON – One of the most remarkable work stoppages in U.S. labour history will soon be the subject of a new documentary film.

Director Jay Childs says “Food Fight: Inside the Battle for Market Basket” should be released in the fall. The film’s first trailer was recently posted online.

The film is about the yearslong power struggle between cousins Arthur T. Demoulas and Arthur S. Demoulas that came to a head last summer when thousands of workers at the Tewksbury, Massachusetts-based supermarket chain walked off the job. They wanted their beloved boss Arthur T. back after he lost control of the board to Arthur S.

Fiercely loyal customers sided with workers and boycotted.

Childs says he wants audiences to understand that while successful, the work stoppage was risky and difficult.
