Wilfrid Laurier University announces sculpture project commemorating past prime ministers

Just in time for Canada Day…

Wilfrid Laurier University and the community organizers of the Prime Ministers Statues Project are teaming to create life-size monuments commemorating Canada’s past prime ministers.

The PM Statues Project is the work of a citizens’ group led by co-chairs Jim Rodger and Dave Caputo.

They hope the statues will celebrate leadership, history and community through a series of bronze sculptures that portray Canada’s past prime ministers.

Rodger says the annoucement made at the university today, officially kicks off the project.

“Only Sir. John A. is complete and we’re in the process now, that we have a permanent location, and now that we’re establishing our funding of comissioning more statues. In total our goal is to have all 22 Canadian Prime Ministers done.”

Each statue will include educational components and will be designed to encourage the public to linger and interact with the art.

The project is marking the 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017.
