Efforts to demolish Mayfair Hotel and neighbouring building resume

Efforts to demolish the Mayfair Hotel and neighbouring building in Downtown Kitchener have resumed today.

There had been a delay in the work for several days due to safety concerns such as falling bricks and asbestos.

Director of Building with the City of Kitchener Michael Seiling tells 570 News that tear down of the building will continue next week, with hopes that the demolition will be fully complete on Friday.

He adds, the City plans to re-open the stretch of King Street near the demolition site for the weekend.

“We met with a number of the Downtown merchants, and they were pleased to hear the news of the King Street being re-opened, and that work is going to resume as of today.”

The demolition will not begin until after scaffolding is installed along King Street, under orders from the Ministry of Labour.
